Cowboy's Trivia Question of the Week!
Who is the oldest player on the Cowboys' roster?
Last Week's Answer:
Danny White

Tim's Talk: Week 14
1. Well was at the game and had a great time. I will talk about my
experience later but now the game play. Well the Cowboys offense
was doing well except for a few drops by some receivers the most
notable the dropped TD pass resulting an in interception by TO
bobbling the ball. Romo did not have a sack which is a credit to the
offensive line. I wonder what Drew Bledsoe is thinking right now?
2. The defense got burned by the switch at QB. I don't know
whether it was they had no game film on Aaron Rodgers or what but
when I saw Favre was out, I thought for sure we had the game
because the Packer brass don't exactly think highly of Rodgers and
Favre has had a frosty relationship with him so with the game on
the line I felt more comfortable with Rodgers than I did with Favre.
But the reason is that the Packers went to their game plan and not
the old Favre was of the throw it in the air and catch it. The short
passing game went well and the Cowboys defense had difficulty
adjusting. This was the same game plan the Packers went at with
the Lions on Thanksgiving day.
3. I did not think Greg Ellis was going to play this year but he is and
is beating up opponents. I never thought he would have this kind of
year.
4. I hated the fourth and 2 call to run Julius Jones. Why was Marion
Barber not there?
5. If Terence Newman does not make the Pro Bowl I will blow a fuse.
6. I think an asterisk of something should be put on interceptions
that were the result of a stupid play by a receiver and not a bad
play by the QB. I mean I see the Int recorded for Romo and think it
was not his fault. He had a great game.
7. For someone that did not catch a lot of passes, Miles Austin sure
helped us with the pass interference calls.
8. I saw the replay with the TO interception early in the first quarter
and thought for sure it was overturned. It stayed. Then the TO
catch for a first down in the first quarter looked like a catch and that
was overturned. Look someone needs to go into the off season and
talk to the refs and see what are they exactly seeing. Are they not
supposed to be getting the best angle shots and the replay should
be clear as can be?
9. Well took off from the hotel around 3:30. Arrived at Texas
Stadium around 4:00. Did not get inside the stadium until 4:50.
Tailgaters were out a full force and the scalpers were charging
upwards to $350 per ticket. The cheeseheads were out in full force
as well. I don't know what it is but they put on the cheesehead and
they began to think differently. I saw a cheeshead Cowboys fan. He
took the Packer cheeshead and painted it Cowboys blue. Good job.
10. The concessions are about the same as last year. Second rate.
I guess that most people who go to the Cowboys game don't come
for the food. AT the Rangers Ballpark there is more a-list food. I ate
before the game and just chose not to buy any food.
11. Man Cowboys fans. Do not blast the Packer fans so much! I
mean cut the profanity. I hear taunts like F your mom or BS or what
a F-ing mistake and flipping the people off. Really mature people.
Now I know why our kids are so messed up. I have never been
much of a taunter at a game. I can't taunt opposing fans or boo the
opposing team. You know you come cheer your team and enjoy the
win. Leave the other fans alone. It is just stupid. Like the players
say, act like you have been there before.
12. Reports are right about Texas Stadium. They do not keep up
with the maintenance of it. Going to my seat, I step on sticky floors
and stop at small restrooms. The new Cowboys Stadium better be
top of the line. I mean they have to keep up with the maintenance of
it if a Super Bowl will be played there. That said I will be sad when
they tear it down.
13. The new stadium better have a better exit strategy when exiting
the parking lot. I mean I stayed in the parking lot for close to an
hour before leaving. I mean we left when the game ended. Did not
leave early and the game ended around close to 10:30 and we
arrived at our hotel at 12:30.
14. Am I the only one that can read ticket stubs? I mean I have
never had a problem finding my seats at a Stadium whether it is at
Texas Stadium, Rangers Ballpark, SBC field (Texas Tech), United
Spirit Arena (TT). Even here at my local minor league arena
football team, minor league baseball, and minor league hockey or
at the local high school football game. I have never had trouble. So
why is it half the fans who enter cannot find their seat? They get the
seat number wrong, the row number wrong or something. Read
people read!
15. Overall I enjoyed going to the game. I love being there, the
atmosphere is great overall and it rubs on you, the mood and
excitement. There is nothing like going to an NFL game.
16. At least I got to see the game. Who lost out in this battle
between the cable companies and the NFL? The fans mostly but
the NFL cannot be happy getting a low percentage of fans
watching. And this does not look like being settled anytime soon
and one game with Carolina will be still shown on NFL Network. And
of course these are the Cowboys and so they will have more game
on the NFL Network. Please settle this!
Cowboys Survive Scare in Detroit
I think I jinxed the Cowboys with last week's article about the Patriots
being vulnerable. Dallas went out and had an all most identical
game to what the Patriots and Ravens game was a week ago.
There are two ways to look at this game. The positive aspect is that
our quarterback led us from 13 points down in the fourth quarter to
a victory. A defense that had trouble stopping anything all day
came up big when it needed to.
The negatives are pretty obvious. Where is our defense? This was
a test to see if we have improved in pass coverage and we pretty
well answered that question. Terence Newman had perhaps his
worst game as a pro. They ran comebacks on him and the other
corners all day and we couldn't stop them. Our safeties and
linebackers were of little help. We didn't give up any big plays, but
it didn't matter. The Lions ate up the clock and kept Tony Romo off
the field for the majority of the game.
Our defense couldn't do anything right yesterday. 27 points isn't
just a huge amount when our offense averages 32 a game, but it is
tough when you let a team have that many long, time consuming
drives. I can't believe how the Lions ran on us. I wouldn't have
guessed that in a million years. Our run defense started slipping
last season about this time. The last two games have been sub par
against two teams that don't exactly excel at running the ball. We
better get that fixed in a hurry. This defense doesn't have a prayer
if teams can run and throw on them.
We also couldn't force a turnover or record a sack until the last play
of the game. This defense has been opportunistic all year. We will
probably allow some points, but we make up for it with big plays of
our own on defense. That didn't happen yesterday. Overall, I think
the defense just looked flat. We weren't covering, we weren't
tackling, we just didn't seem focused. This team will have some
problems stopping the pass though. I will have more on that later in
the week.
The offense looked great as always. I keep waiting for them to
have an off week and it just doesn't seem like it is going to happen.
28 points is below their season average, but it seems like we scored
on nearly every possession. I'd have to look at the stats, but we
didn't have many chances on offense.
Jason Witten had a monster game. He is only 45 yards short of
1000 on the year. His fumble on the 1 yard line really hurt, but he
redeemed himself with the winning touchdown catch. He is just so
reliable. He gets open and he always makes the tough catch.
I'm really impressed with Terrell Owens. He just seems different.
I've seen him in several interviews and he just seems calmer and
more mature. He is definitely a weird guy, but I think he has been
the ultimate team guy. He may have acted differently if we had lost,
but he seemed happy that Jason had a monster game. He just kept
saying he knows his role in this offense. He knows either he is
getting the ball or someone else is getting it because of him drawing
off the coverage. He is a guy that needs to feel wanted and
important and I think he feels that.
Tony Romo was amazing. This guy would run away with the MVP
any other year. He is the reason we are 11-1. This is basically the
same team as last season with the exception of him. We will be in
contention every year if he plays at the level he is playing at this
season.
Jay Ratliff is the only defensive player that stood out. He nearly
forced a safety in the 4th quarter. He had several quarterback
pressures as he was the only guy to consistently get a push up
front.
A couple of the long Lions runs were bad luck. On the T.J. Duckett
run, Ratliff stunted left leaving a huge gap that had to be filled by
Akin Ayodele. The running play was designed to go right where
Ratliff vacated. Ayodele was the only guy that had a real shot and
he was blocked by an offensive lineman. Now Duckett should have
been tackled in the secondary before he scored, but that run was
destined to be a big gain. Another play similar to this happened on
a 15 yard run by Kevin Jones. Ware came inside on a stunt and
they ran right to the spot vacated by him. Someone is obviously
supposed to fill that gap, but it makes it hard when you are moving
around to different places. Those moves help get penetration and
if they run at a stunt or twist you can look great, but if they go away
from it you could be in trouble. We may start to miss Jason
Ferguson. It was nice having a guy that could just stand there and
plug the middle. Ratliff definitely isn't the problem with our run
defense as I'm not even sure we have one, but we better get back
into the habit of shutting down the run.
