Last Week's Answer:

Purdue
JERRY, DON’T PUT US IN THE TANK!
By: Larry Petton

The Chicago Bears showed their character and fired a player who
was nothing but double trouble.  Now rumors are running wild that
Jerry Jones, the opportunist, is itching to sign Tank Johnson to fill
the gap on the Cowboys’ defensive line.  Be right back…I think I
might throw up.

“We are upset and embarrassed by Tank's actions last week," said
Chicago Bears’ general manager, Jerry Angelo. "He compromised
the credibility of our organization. We made it clear to him that he
had no room for error. Our goal was to help someone through a
difficult period in his life, but the effort needs to come from both
sides. It didn't, and we have decided to move on."   (Wow….a
general manager with scruples.  What is the NFL coming to these
days?).

Johnson was stopped for speeding in Arizona last Friday and was
then cited for "being impaired to the slightest degree," a police
spokesman told the Chicago Tribune.  Don’t you wish you could
know the whole truth on that one?

The three-year pro out of Washington has already been
suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 regular season for
violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.  Heck, who cares about
losing a guy for half the year when we have a chance to sign a
player like Tank Johnson? Gag.

Johnson was sentenced to 120 days in jail on March 15 for violating
probation from a gun charge in 2005. He was released on good
behavior after serving half of the sentence and met with NFL
commissioner Roger Goodell in May where he was given a direct
warning.  Tank must have flushed that conversation.

Last December, Johnson was arrested on misdemeanor weapons
charges after police raided his home and found several high-
powered guns. The raid resulted in six misdemeanor counts of
possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's ID card.   He can’t
spell his name, but man you ought to see him play defense!

Originally a second-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, Johnson
posted 26 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in 14 regular-season games last
year, helping the Bears to the Super Bowl. He has 63 tackles and
nine sacks for his career. So what.  Who cares?

Jerry, don’t put the image of the Cowboys in the tank once again by
signing this criminal.  This has nothing to do with race.  The best
NFL coach with the best attitude is an African-American gentleman
of faith.  Look at Tony Dungy if you want to know how to win with
class and character.

Jerry, you surely aren’t that desperate, are you?

One thing for sure on the positive side………getting Tank to Dallas
might  even make T.0. look good.

they are nice, I will save them to my computer.  If not, I will send

     The One That Got Away
By:  Gary

First off,  I believe that this past season, which ended with an early
exit from the playoffs and was highlighted by the Romo miscue, "is
not" the primary factor for Bill Parcells stepping down.  I think the
single most defining factor was the thrashing that the master took
from the student, when New Orleans schooled the Cowboys.

It remains a fact that Sean Payton had a wealth of information to pull
from on the tendencies of Bill Parcells.  Nothing of the sort existed
the other way around.   When Bill went up against Sean, a lot of
people expected the master to school the student, no matter what,
including the master himself.  So, I think when this game worked out
the way it did, I think it was the single most devastating loss in Bill's
career and he biggest reason he chose to retire.

Though you may have tendencies as a coach, you don't want
somebody to be able to find them easily, nor exploit them to the
point of embarrassment.  What "self perceived" great coach would
want to have to deal with such a threat late in his career? That's
exactly what Bill found himself facing.

Now, to the true point of where this is going.  How painful must it be,
among supposed football men (people in the know), to discover that
after all their years they still can't see a gem, or recognize it when
it's right in their camp and right before their eyes.  Do you think the
Cowboys deal with this every day, since Sean got away from them?
I have a right to make a mistake and to have wondered about
Sean's capabilities.  What the heck, he was demoted by the New
York Giants at one point for his play calling.  This caused me to
always have doubts about Sean.  I think I may still have some
doubts about his play calling ability, but his abilities as a coach
cannot be questioned.

I think it's safe to say that he understands, talks, and works with
people as effectively as any football man around.  Something that
has become obvious about Sean is that he has a much healthier
respect/appreciation for blue collar work ethic.  He has respected
that and has shown it by the brilliant acquisition of some of the
Cowboys best blue collar guys.

I believe we will begin to see a return to that useful kind of respect
and coaching with Wade Philips.  So I do feel good about our
coaching change.  It remains to be seen if Wade will ever manage
the clock as well as Sean did in his October 15th game against
Philadelphia.   It's just another one of those things that proves
a very good one did get away.
