I Need Help With This Site!

I'm asking anyone who is a fan of this site to become a co-writer for
it.  I have a new job that will take away from the amount of time I can
put into this website.  I'm probably only going to have time for a
couple of articles a week, which is hardly enough to keep visitors
coming back.  All you would have to do is e-mail me the article and I
would be able to post it and give you credit for it.

Have your opinion heard!  A different viewpoint would be great for
this site.  Please e-mail me if your interested.  My e-mail address is

Cowboy's Trivia
Question of the
Week!

What college did
the Cowboys' last
offensive 1st
Round pick
attend?

Last Week's Answer:
Vince Lombardi
Good Move

Tony Romo needs to go into the season knowing he is the Man
and needs to prove himself. Quinn would have been a good
insurance policy but it would have been another media firestorm if
the Boys got him. Besides, most scouts had said that believe he
was a good quarterback but not a great one, not worth the price of
getting in the first ten picks or so. So why get a guy to tutor for two
years or so to rebuild when the pieces are in places right now to
compete. I believe Romo is the real deal as far as a good starting
quarterback. Will he be Staubach or Aikman. No he won't. But he
will be better than what the Cowboys have seen since Aikman
retired. And he needs to play without someone looking over his
back. I just have a feeling that this move will be looked upon the
way the Cowboys passed on Randy Moss. Other teams passed on
him but the Cowboys are criticized the most for not. Now from the
looks of things, it looks like a good move to pass on him. For the
record I felt they should not have drafted him. The Cowboys were
in too many headlines for the wrong reasons and the last thing
they needed was more controversy. So only in time will we know if
this was a good move. Besides the Cowboys will have 2 first round
picks and considering the Browns have only had 1 winning season
since returning in 1999, at worst it could be top 15. But like many
Cowboys fans everywhere, we are rooting for every Browns
opponent next year including the Steelers.

Knife On the Way Out
The Cowboys could not have waited for the beast to leave to get all
tough. Now that Parcells is gone players like TO and Julius Jones
are jumping on him. TO was not surprising that he reacted this
way. I was more surprised that he participated in mini-camp. But
Julius Jones reaction was surprising. I mean every workplace when
the head boss leaves, there is going to be people who have to
adjust. The Rangers are going through the same thing. It is natural
for any pro team to hire a guy that is different from the regime
before. I mean would it have made sense for the Cowboys to hire
Tom Coughlin to follow Parcells? No. So you hire a guy who is
different. As far as the backlash from players, I mean we all knew
Owens was going to say something and what he said was not all
that controversial considering what he has said in the past but the
media have to ham it up to make it a worthy story. Jones on the
other hand said he felt like a robot last year on the team. Well, if
Phillips is letting you decide how to hit the hole yourself, than you
better have a good year Jones and back it up. Of course he
probably will because it is a contract year.

Enough of the Parcells bashing. He left a better team here then
when he arrived. I mean it was a failure because the Boys did not
win the Super Bowl and no playoff wins or division titles.
But the Boys have the pieces in place to compete in the next few
years. Really, was there ever any optimism during the Dave Campo
era? If there had been only two openings and those openings were
the Cowboys and Raiders and all the coaching candidates that
were interviewed had their choice, where are they going to
choose? Of course, Phillips does not have to do much tweaking
with the system in place, they know the 3-4 and mostly every
starter is returning so from that part, Parcells did contribute.

Metroplex Gains While Dallas Loses
12. Went to the Metroplex to see a Ranger game and got to see
the construction of the new Cowboys stadium. I just come to think
that with the recent news of the Metroplex getting the Super Bowl in
2011 that what a big deal it is for the area. But still I feel Dallas
dropped the ball. I mean why do you not want to build the stadium
in Dallas. I mean it was the same politics that forced the Clint
Murchinson to build Texas Stadium in Irving. I mean Irving was still
in Dallas County at least. These are the Cowboys!!! To have the
stadium in the Fair Park/Cotton Bowl area would have been a wise
move. And Jones is paying for half of the stadium. The Indianapolis
Colt's stadium is going to be payed all from taxpayer money. I just
don't think it is right for the Dallas Cowboys to not play their home
games in Dallas. I mean the stadium is still going to be the best in
the league and the fans will still travel to Arlington to watch but lets
just hope they do not take a page out of a certain MLB teams way
of handling of their name and begin to call their team the Dallas
Cowboys of Arlington. It just does not seem right. Of course the
Giants and Jets play their games in New Jersey. Not even the same
state.

BEST COWBOYS’ LINEUP EVER – PART I: OFFENSE
By: Larry Petton

I love favorites.  Go to my Facebook and there they are – ESPN,
Everybody Loves Raymond and, of course, any Dallas Cowboy
game.  Even the Tony Romo slick ball fumble game….which I
affectionately call the “IMMACULATE DECEPTION”.

Favorite players on my favorite team?  Hmmm….now that’s gonna
take some thought and perhaps several Starbucks.  Let’s break it
down and start with the Offense first.

The Cowboys have had some of the greatest offenses in the
history of the NFL.  With the genius of Tom Landry, Dallas re-
invented the Shot Gun offense in the 70’s and went on to shock
the Rams with their Dirty Dozen rookies laughing all the way to the
Super Bowl.  So, put on your seat belt, here we go.  This is gonna
be a ton of fun!

BEST QB – I love Roger the Dodger and he was the most exciting
Cowboy ever.  But Troy brought home three rings.  Both are HOF
qbs, so you can’t go wrong either way.  I have to go with the 3-0
Super Bowl record for Aikman.

BEST RB – Duh, do I have to spell it out?  The leading rusher in
NFL history, our very own, Emmitt Smith.  Tony Dorsett, Don
Perkins, Calvin Hill, Duane Thomas and Robert Newhouse are nice
memories, but no comparison.

BEST FB -  I can read your mind.  You are thinking “The Moose”,
right?  Wrong.  I take the real Cowboy, Walt Garrison.  He could do
it all.  Run, block, catch passes and rope steers in the off-season.
Moose was great, but he was not much of a runner.

BEST WRS – You gotta go with the newest Dallas Cowboy in the
NFL Hall of Fame, Michael Irvin.  I can still see him stretching into
the end zone in the first Super Bowl bashing of the Bills.
Competitve.  Yes, arrogant.  Confident.  Tough-minded.  I loved
having him on the field in tight games.  Speaking of clutch players,
I have to go with Drew Pearson (Mr. Clutch) and Bullet Bob Hayes,
world’s fastest human, in the slot.  That’s a killer receiving corp.

BEST TE – Dallas does have a Hall of Fame tight end in Jackie
Smith, but he did most of his damage in the NFL as a Cardinal.
Plus, I am still mad at him for dropping a cinchy touchdown pass in
the Super Bowl that could have put us in position to beat the
hated Steelers.  My choice is Jay Novacek.  What a third-down
threat.  No one could stay with his slick moves in the field and he
was the consummate team player.  Boy, that 90’s Dallas team was
loaded!  How did they ever lose?

BEST  KICKER -  My favorite here is Rafael Septien.  Dallas has
always been a place where kickers were low-paid, second class
citizens, so we have not had the All-Pro very often, except for the
likes of little Raffy.  In case you are interested, Mike Vander-junk
did not even get a vote.

BEST TACKLES – It doesn’t get any better than Rayfield Wright,
NFL Hall of Famer.  He was making pancakes before they were
even cool!  At the other side, place Larry Allen, the most
dominating blocker ever in blue and silver.  Pancakes with extra
syrup!

BEST GUARDS – You can’t pass on John Niland and Nate
Newton.  With those two guys pulling and blocking, bolstered by
Wright and Allen on the ends, Emmitt might have gained 3000
yards in a season!

BEST CENTER – John Fitzgerald was consistent and as hard-
working as any center ever.  But my money is on Mark Stepnoski
from the 90’s team.  Emmitt ran straight up the middle most of his
carries because of this work-horse.

There you have it.  The all-time Dallas offense.  Let’s summarize:

QB –  Troy Aikman

RB –  Emmitt Smith

FB –  Walt Garrison

WR – Michael Irvin, Drew Pearson, Bob Hayes

TE –  Jay Novacek

OT –  Rayfield Wright, Larry Allen

OG – John Niland, Nate Newton

K –    Rafael Septien

I will take that team and beat anyone, any time, anywhere.
Seriously.
