I Need Help With This Site!

I'm asking anyone who is a fan of this site to become a co-writer for
it.  I have a new job that will take away from the amount of time I can
put into this website.  I'm probably only going to have time for a
couple of articles a week, which is hardly enough to keep visitors
coming back.  All you would have to do is e-mail me the article and I
would be able to post it and give you credit for it.

Have your opinion heard!  A different viewpoint would be great for
this site.  Please e-mail me if your interested.  My e-mail address is

THE T.O. COMMANDMENTS
By: Larry Petton

Rev. Terrell Owens is back in the pulpit and preaching loud again.
Can I get a witness?  Now comes the revelation that Owens was not
exactly fond of Father Bill Parcells.  Shocking, isn’t it?  Parcells
retorts that he had no part in the Owens signing and that he was
forced to put up with T.O.  Jerry Jones, can I get a witness?

Owens claims that Wade Phillips will be much better for the
clubhouse climate in Cowboy Country.   I bet they will be holding
hands and singing “Kumbaya” before camp is over this summer.
Revival is here!

With Rev. Owens sharing his latest prophetic utterance, I would like
to add a little word about what might help the chemistry in this year’
s edition of Doomsday.  Call it….the T.O. COMMANDMENTS.   I am
not claiming divine inspiration.

I. FIRST COMMANDMENT – THOU SHALT LOVE THY TEAM
ABOVE THYSELF.
T.O. is the consummate team-less player.   All
that seems to matter is that he is the center of the Universe.  Until
he repents of that attitude, look for the Cowboys playoff drought to
continue.  Remember, Rev. Owens, there is no “I” in T.O.

II. SECOND COMMANDMENT –  THOU SHALT NOT KILL TEAM
UNITY.  Real stars bring teams together.  What did you do to a
talented Philly team that just came off a Super Bowl?   What kind of
climate did you build in the Cowboy clubhouse last year?

III. THIRD COMMANDMENT – THOU SHALT NOT STEAL THE
SPOTLIGHT.
Here is a word from the Lord:  it’s not about you,
Brother Terrell.  Why do you insist on making every game a display
of your drama? You have made the NFL into a soap opera:  ”As
The World Turns Around T.O.”  Boring.

IV. FOURTH COMMANDMENT – THOU SHALT COVET A RING.
Why don’t you focus on winning the Big Dance?  When you stack
your career against that of Jerry Rice, one thing is obviously
missing…no rings for T.O.

V. FIFTH COMMANDMENT – THOU SHALT HONOR THY COACH.
Why do you always have to be in conflict with someone in
authority?  You have one more chance with a great guy in Wade
Phillips.  Don’t screw it up…you are not getting younger.

VI.  SIXTH COMMANDMENT – THOU SHALT DO THY TALKING
ON THE FIELD.
If only you could catch passes with your mouth,
you would never miss a single pass.  Who could miss that
bottomless pit?  How about following the example of Tony Dungy?
Keep your mouth shut…..be a man…..produce on the field.  Only
then will you get the respect you covet.  We are really tired of your
act.

Judgment Day is here, Preacher Owens.  The 2007 season
draweth nigh.  You are with a talented Cowboys’ team that could go
all the way to the top…..or to the bottom.   Let’s see your stuff.
Hopefully, it will be different than last year’s sermon.  That one put
me to sleep…kind of like the way you felt in Parcell's team meetings.

Amen.

Breakin' Down the Roster:  Wide Receiver

Perhaps no position on the Dallas Cowboys' roster has more depth
or talent than wide receiver.  Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens, and
Patrick Crayton along with Jason Witten make what is perhaps the
most potent receiving corp in the NFL.

The top end of our receiver depth chart is aging, but still
outstanding.  Both Glenn and Owens possess great speed even at
their age.  They can still get by the best of corners.  The only worry
with these guys are injuries.  Terry Glenn has somehow stayed
healthy the past two seasons, but he has a long history of injuries.
Terrell Owens has had a bevy of injuries over the past three
seasons.  I'm not worried about these guys slowing down, but I am
worried about them staying on the field.

If Glenn and Owens miss some time with injury, we should be fine
because we have great depth.  Patrick Crayton could start for some
teams.  He has the best hands on the team and he will be a starter
in this league by 2008 (hopefully with us).  Behind him we have Sam
Hurd, Miles Austin, Jameel Richardson, and Isiah Stanback.  Hurd
and Austin looked good as rookies last season.  Both played well
on special teams and both have some potential at receiver.  Hurd
did a good job in the Cardinals game when he started in place of
Terry Glenn.

Miles Austin is the real guy to watch though.  Mel Kiper openly
wondered why this guy wasn't drafted.  He had him going in the 4th
Round two years ago.  After hearing this I dug up some info on the
guy.  He averaged 22 yards a catch his senior season.  He also ran
a 4.47 40 at the Combine which is pretty impressive when you
consider he is 6'3 220.  Although he isn't a true burner, he seems
to be a pretty fluid and athletic guy as evidence by his success on
kick-off returns.

This year we signed Jameel Richardson and drafted Isiah Stanback.
Richardson played in Canada and was a pretty hod commodity.   I
wouldn't be surprised if he made our roster.  You guys know about
Stanback.  We are going to convert him to wide receiver.  He seems
to ooze potential at that position.

I think six of the first seven guys I've mentioned here will make the
team.  The top three are locks unless we decide to can Owens
which doesn't seem likely at all.  I think Austin will make the team
after being such a good returner last season.  He also has more
upside than Hurd as a receiver although Hurd is more polished.  I
think Hurd will probably beat out Richardson though.  Stanback is
virtually a lock because he is a 4th round pick although last year's
4th rounder didn't make the team.  That was a little different
situation though.  Stanback is a developmental guy.  Green was a
guy that was expected to come in and win the return job from Day 1.

The two rookie free agents Rabb and Jefferson don't seem to have
much of a shot at making the team.  They will probably be battling
for spots on the practice squad.
