I Need Help With This Site!

I'm asking anyone who is a fan of this site to become a co-writer for
it.  I have a new job that will take away from the amount of time I can
put into this website.  I'm probably only going to have time for a
couple of articles a week, which is hardly enough to keep visitors
coming back.  All you would have to do is e-mail me the article and I
would be able to post it and give you credit for it.

Have your opinion heard!  A different viewpoint would be great for
this site.  Please e-mail me if your interested.  My e-mail address is

 Sleepless Since Seattle
By:  Larry Petton

When we last saw our American Idols, Tony Romo was playing
butterfinger with a simple snap for a chip-shot field goal.  Surely
you haven’t forgotten.  The play still haunts a talented Cowboys
team that is looking for its first playoff win in a decade.  Hard to
believe, isn’t it?   It’s enough to make Jimmy Johnson’s hair move.

Maybe this will be the breakthrough season.  If so, there is a steep
mountain to climb with the '07 NFL football schedule.  As usual,
Dallas is the darling of the networks with a club record 7 nationally-
televised games, including the inaugural Sunday night season
opener against the New York “Other Manning Kid” Giants.

The 2007 schedule will also include the league max of 3 games on
NBC’s Sunday Night Football, one appearance on ESPN’s Monday
Night Football and two games on the NFL Network.  As usual, the
Cowboys get the Turkey Day game with the New York Jets, their
first time to play in the Thanksgiving classic.

The message from the networks?  Love ‘em or loathe ‘em…..
people want to see Dallas play regardless of the record of the
team.  They are still America ’s Team.  They are like the Yankees
of baseball and the Lakers of basketball.  How many beer-bellied,
middle-aged men wear shirts to NFL games all across the nation,
“MY FAVORITE TEAM IS __________ AND WHOEVER IS PLAYING
DALLAS!”   Jealousy runs real deep against the team that has
been to the most Super Bowls.   Eat your heart out, Philly.

How does 2007 look for Mr. Wade Phillips, son of the Bum?   Let’s
take a trip into the crystal ball and forecast the fall for the team that
Bill Parcells has left as his final legacy.  With seven games against
playoff teams from 2006 and a plethora of big-game spotlights, get
busy now looking for those wishbones and rabbit’s feet.  The ‘Boys
will need all the help they can muster when pigskin time returns.

SEPT. 9 –   N.Y. GIANTS  (NBC, 7:15 p.m.)
It’s the first game under the lights for Bum, Jr.  The last time Dallas
started the season with the Giants, they mopped the place with
those Yanks, 35-zippo.   That won’t happen this time, but Dallas will
have more than enough to get by a Manning team that will be trying
to find another Tiki.  Count it a big W in a blowout win at home.  1-0.

SEPT. 16 – at MIAMI  (FOX, 3:05 p.m.)
I don’t like the feel of this one.  We open up with a late Sunday
night game.  Then back to the tip of Florida for the focus game of a
Sunday afternoon double-header.  The Fish are only one of 6
teams to have a winning record with Dallas , winning 7 of 11.  Make
that 8 of 12.  Fatigue sets in….. Dallas drops to 1-1.

SEPT. 23 – at CHICAGO (NBC, 7:15 p.m.)
Who made the schedules this year?  Was it Dan Snyder or Andy
Reid?  Give me a break.  I don’t think the Bear’s D will give Romo a
break in this one.  Chicago will be hyped, Rex will only throw 3
interceptions this time and Tony will be running for his life.  Sorry,
fans, we haven’t won in Soldier Field since the Reagan
Administration….Dallas opens 1-2.    But, we get 8 of
13 in Dallas from this point, so don’t throw in the towel yet!

SEPT. 30 – ST. LOUIS  (FOX, noon…..what, no national tv??)
Welcome to the heat, Steven Jackson.  With a hungry Dallas
defense, the season opener at a suffocating Texas Stadium will
warm the hearts of Cowboys’ fans as Romo wins a shootout against
the potent Ram’s offense.  Back to .500 at 2-2.

OCTOBER 8 – at BUFFALO (ESPN MNF, 7:30 p.m.)
Dallas has not won in Buff City since 1971.  The Bills’ fans are still
mad about two Super Bowl losses and want some revenge in a rare
Monday Night Football game for the Bills  (known affectionately as
Boy, I Love Losing Super Bowls!).  Buffalo has an attitude and
wants to prove something, but so does Wade Phillips, who coached
the Bills for 3 years and was let go after a winning record and
playoff experiences.  I think this game will show what we’ve got in a
QB.  I believe Romo steps up and takes us to 3-2.

OCTOBER 15 – NEW ENGLAND (CBS, 3:15 p.m.)
Get the Tivo ready for this one.  It could be a keeper:  a growing
Dallas team playing at home in a statement game against the
Brady Bunch which could go all the way this year.  It’s T.O. and
Randy.  It’s Tom and Tony time.  It will be interesting….but sad for
the ‘Boys.  Randy Moss does not have a loss in Texas Stadium.
Big D goes down to the Pats and now we are 3-3.

OCTOBER 21 – MINNESOTA  (FOX, Noon)
Oklahoma fans will fill up Texas Stadium to see Adrian Peterson
return to Dallas since leaving the Sooners.  Texas Longhorn fans
show up, too, to thank him for leaving.  Unfortunately, A.P. will go
home with a lopsided loss from a Cowboys’ team that will be
needing a win.  Pokes are 4-3 and getting ready for a week off.

OCTOBER 28 – BYE  (Time to re-evaluate)

The 2nd half of this article will be published next week.

This article written by Larry Petton is given to Jeremy Dunklin for

Sleepless Since Seattle:  Part II

NOV. 4 – at PHILADELPHIA  (NBC, 7:15 p.m.)
Terrell Owens goes back for a family reunion. Dallas plays another
big game on another big night.  It is never easy in Philly, regardless
of the year.  McNabb wants this one more than Romo.  Do not pass
go, do not collect another win.  Fall back one space to mediocre at
mid-season with a 4-4 record.

NOV. 11 – at N.Y. GIANTS (FOX, 3:15 p.m.)
Dallas goes for the sweep against the Giants who are victimized by
Manning mistakes once again.  Dallas goes to 5-4 and talk of
benching Peyton, Jr. is out of control in the Big Apple.

NOV. 18 – WASHINGTON  (FOX, noon)
How does the best rivalry in the NFL get left out of national tv
exposure?  Somebody in marketing missed out.  However, Dallas
won’t miss out as Romo has a huge game against a team that is
searching for a pass rush.  Boys win big over the Deadskins and
go to 6-4.

NOV. 22 – NEW YORK JETS (CBS, Thanksgiving Day, 3:15 p.m.)

Pretty boring matchup for all the couch potatoes who can barely
keep their eyes open late in the afternoon following a big feed.
Dallas wins a non-inspiring contest with some ugly uniforms
(remember those Thanksgiving throwbacks??).  Chalk it up to 7-4.

NOV. 29 – GREEN BAY (NFL Network, 7:15 p.m.)
Strange schedule this year….two straight Thursday games?  But
this one could be interesting as Brett pays his last visit to Texas
Stadium where he lost some big games in the ‘90s.  He will lose his
last game in Dallas in 2007 as well.  The Pack is not back and the
‘Boys pass rush harrasses Favre all night long as Anthony Spencer
and Demarcus Ware play strong on the national stage.  Wade’s
warriors move to a respectable 8-4.

DEC. 9 – at DETROIT  (FOX, noon)
The Cowboys need to take this one seriously because they went to
sleep in the Lions den in the last game of 2006.   This should be a
different situation with an improving Dallas D and a maturing Tony
Romo.  The Dallas running game, however, will be the major
difference in this one.  Dallas moves on to 9-4.

DEC. 16 – PHILADELPHIA (FOX, 3:15 p.m.)
This game could decide the division winner in the NFC East.  Dallas
is coming together at the right time and learning how to have a
dominating defense.  Without his big-time receivers, McNabb will
spend a lot of time scrambling for help.  He won’t be able to get
away from DOOMSDAY.  Cowboys conquer a tough divisional foe
and go to 10-4.

DEC. 22 – at CAROLINA  (NFL Network, 7:15 p.m.)
Why do we have to go to Carolina every year?  I guess it doesn’t
matter if the ‘Boys play like they did last year and the Panthers fall
apart again.  Carolina will really need this one and will want it more
than Dallas .  Panthers pass the Pokes and Jerry Jones Inc. falls to
10-5 needing a win to claim the division.

DEC. 30 – at WASHINGTON (FOX, noon)
Redskin fans would rather beat Dallas than win the Super Bowl.  If
you don’t believe that, you have never been to Washington for a
Cowboys & Indians showdown.  Dallas will need a win to clinch the
division.  Washington will have nothing to play for except the big
rivalry game and the last game Joe Gibbs will ever coach.
Redskins scalp the ‘Boys and Joe jolts back to Nascar as players
carry him off the field.    Dallas ties Philly for the division and claims
the division on tie-breakers.   Dallas settles for a 10-6 record a first
round playoff game at home.

The Cowboys win their first playoff game in a decade playing at
home and drop out in the second round on the road at New
Orleans.  The season ends at 11-7 with a playoff breakthrough and
a glimpse of the future.  Dallas develops a dominating, pass-
rushing defense with a strong running attack featuring a two-back
set.  Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Anthony Spencer, Demarcus
Ware, Jason Witten and T.O. have big years.  Tony grows up a
little more and takes another step toward championship level.
Terry Glenn considers retirement.  The secondary still needs
another playmaker at safety.  Jerry and Wade ponder about what
to do with the number one pick in the draft via the trade with
Cleveland for Brady Quinn which wins 3 games the entire year.
Jerry eventually trades down with the pick and looks for a strong
safety and another wide receiver in the first round.  Julius Jones
bolts for free agency and Michael Turner signs with the Cowboys.

I’m no football Nostradamus, but hold on to this article and check
me out.  If I miss it badly….please send your complaints and
criticisms to Jeremy Dunklin!   I just hope the last game of this
season does not end on a fumbled snap.   I have been sleepless
since Seattle .
